Don't Let the Flu Get You Down This Winter, Baton Rouge!

Dr. Charles Sasser • December 23, 2025

As we head deeper into winter, one thing that's already making the rounds: the flu.

It's a common misconception that the flu is just a bad cold. In reality, it can be a serious illness, leading to complications like pneumonia and hospitalizations—especially for vulnerable populations.

Here at Sasser Direct Primary Care, my mission is to keep you and your family healthy and thriving. That’s why I want to talk about how you can protect yourself and what makes our personalized care model the perfect partner in your winter wellness.

The Best Defense is a Good Offense: Flu Prevention Tips

  1. Get Your Flu Shot! I can't stress this enough. The flu vaccine is your best tool for preventing the flu or making the illness milder if you do catch it. It's safe, effective, and readily available.
  2. Wash Your Hands Frequently: This simple act is incredibly powerful. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in public places.
  3. Avoid Touching Your Face: Your hands pick up germs throughout the day. Touching your eyes, nose, and mouth provides an easy pathway for viruses to enter your body.
  4. Stay Home When Sick: If you feel flu-like symptoms, please stay home. This protects others in our community and helps prevent the spread.
  5. Boost Your Immune System: Ensure you're getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, and staying hydrated. A strong foundation helps you fight off whatever comes your way.

Why Membership-Based Care is Better for Flu Season

In a traditional medical office, flu season means packed waiting rooms, 15-minute rushed appointments, and weeks of waiting to get in to see your doctor. At Sasser Primary Care, we do things differently through our Concierge and Direct Primary Care (DPC) models.

When you are a member of our practice, you experience:

  • No Waiting Rooms: When you’re feeling miserable with a fever and chills, the last thing you want to do is sit in a lobby for an hour. We pride ourselves on having little to no wait time once you arrive.
  • Same-Day or Next-Day Appointments: Flu symptoms hit fast. Because we limit our patient panel, we can see you right away when you need us most.
  • Direct Access to Me: Our members can call, text, or email me directly. If you have a question about a high fever at 7:00 PM, you don't have to wait for an answering service or head to a crowded urgent care.
  • Transparent & Simple Pricing: We’ve removed insurance from the equation. You pay a simple monthly fee that covers unlimited visits and chronic disease management.
  • Discounted Labs and Medication: We offer medications in-clinic at wholesale prices and provide significantly discounted rates on lab work—meaning no "sticker shock" from a simple flu test.

Whether you are a busy professional, a growing family, or a business owner looking to provide better benefits for your team, our goal is to provide high-quality, personalized healthcare without the high-cost insurance headaches.

Stay healthy this winter, Baton Rouge! If you’re ready for a doctor-patient relationship that puts you first
